Tax Credits

The 2010 tax credits haven’t disappeared yet. In December of 2010 President Obama signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act into law. This effectively extended the 2010 tax credits—with a few changes—through 2011. What are some of the differences? There is now a $500 lifetime limit ($200 for windows) in total credits that a homeowner can claim from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2011. The $500 limit is a lifetime, aggregate limit and is not limited to windows and exterior doors; the limit is applicable for any combination of tax credit-qualifying products such as HVAC, insulation, roofing, etc. If you have installed, or are installing, qualifying products on your primary residence (from January 1-December 31, 2011) you qualify for these tax exemptions.
